Squagmyre (skwag/my/r) formed the fall of 1989 during the second week at Lyndon State College in Vermont. Jim Wiegand searched out four people - Steve (don't know his last name) on bass, Mike Walker, on guitar, Carl Shepherd, on guitar and Dave Langhoff on drums. Jim had seven original songs that he introduced and the first practice was a success. Unfortunately, Steve had other things going on so Jesse Howes joined, on bass. The name Squagmyre came a week before their first gig; The Party at Henry's House! One morning Jim woke up after a long night of drinking, his roommate at the time (Rich Corrales) still asleep, suddenly awoke as Jim was taking a drink from a large jug of tea. Rich said, one eye peering out from under his blanket, "Don't squag in that!" Funny, so the name Squag stuck,  a day later it became Squagmyre.

The band started to play out in town at "GUMBY'S" a local bar owned by Shawn Robarts. This became home for Squagmyre. Gumby's bar was crazy, many nights at Gumbys!! Thank You Shawn!! (www.rivercitysaloon.com) After the first gig at Gumby's Mike left Squag, Leaving Jim, Dave, Carl and Jesse. This would be the line up until Jesse graduated and moved to Florida. Bass player Mike Bolugh filled in for a semester and had to leave the state. In 1991 John Sprauge joined Squagmyre. During the next year Squagmyre played at many parties, events and schools, Saint Michaels College, Green Mountain College and other colleges in the state. Every Wednesday night of that summer Squag played in the gazebo on top of the hill in Saint Johnsbury. Squag also played on radio stations, they entered a radio contest (WWLR) and won. They recorded, "Catfishman" on a benefit album for the homeless. In 1992 John and Carl left, and Jesse started to play with Squagmyre again. At this time Dave was living at the Darling Hill Resort (Graceland ) in East Burke, Vermont. Jim moved in and later Jesse did too. Before the move Squagmyre had no place to practice, sometimes they would play in the theater or the theater dressing room, or a classroom, or in someone's living room...... Now that Squag lived in the same house (Graceland), the next thing was to set up a studio. Low budget gear  a four track recorder and some crappy mics. That's where we were until Jake Urban became sound engineer. Squagmyre had a space to practice and a place to record and a place to live. Jesse had a job, Jim and Dave were still in school,  had jobs, kept playing and recording. Jim was always focusing on writing new material and there was plenty of music for an album. Songs were picked to be recorded, the house was modified to be the studio. The recording gear and mixer were in the laundry room, the room across the hall was for the band to jam in, and down the hall was a small vocal booth. The bathroom upstairs was also used as a vocal booth,

the cables went up the laundry shoot making the upstairs available. The house was built in the seventies, eight track,  intercoms everywhere, BBQ area all enclosed brick and screen. Four bedrooms, kitchen, living room, laundry room, full bathroom, two bay garage with a pit, a pool house, a small garage out back. The place was private and music could be played at all hours of the day, plus it was a good place to have a party.  Recording began, long nights messing around with the sound. Jake worked his magic and put a lot of time in at Graceland, tracking was moving along. The gigs kept coming, Caledonia County Fair, Club Toast, parties, colleges, Burlington. Things were going well, recording was moving forward, school was busy, Squag needed a keyboard player. John Winn left campus and moved in to the house of Squag, recorded tracks, played gigs ate Ruffles and drank Dr. Pepper. About 7 months later John left a note saying he moved back home......never to be seen again....John leaving was a curve ball...Squagmyre never released the album....(the soon to be released "The Laundry Room Tapes")....there were differences between other members and Jesse left. Dave had a friend Kyle Spark, from his home town that would come and sit in and do his thing but this did not last long. Jim had a friend from Johnson State College Rudy Dauth that was a guitar player that would play bass. Rudy would remain the bass player for the next 6 years. Dave and Jim graduated form Lyndon State College and in 1995 moved to Jericho, Vermont. Practice was held at the Lawrence house (Jim's Mom) where they also recorded their next album. Wendy, Jim's sister went away to school so all the recording gear went into her room. Jake came down for the weekend and recorded 8 songs. "The Wendy's Room Sessions" came out on cassette tape, (soon to be re released on CD) and was distributed by manager Mike Glidden. Squagmyre was playing in Burlington and traveling more of New England. In 1997 "Pearl of Confusion" was recorded in Saint Albans at Steve Goodrich's studio. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by P.R. Appelget and Steve Goodrich. After the album was released it seemed like everyone was moving, practices were held at Rudy's house and more traveling in New England.

At the end of 1997 Rudy mentioned he wanted to move on with his music as a guitarist so Squagmyre searched out Justin Harrison to play bass. Rudy playing guitar the next couple of years would be insane, and go by very fast. Songs were always being written, gigs were booked and there was a plan to record a new album. The rock and roll was taking control there was no time to think.....then in the fall Jim started to experience incredible back pain and headaches....Kidney stones.....everything came to a screaming halt. January 19th Jim had his first surgery, bought a house and lost his marbles. Dave and Rudy played in a band in Burlington, Justin shaved his body, bought a kitten, and played in a band in Stowe.
The story isn't over yet!!! In 2000 Squagmyre was on hiatus for two years, Dave moved back to Mass, Rudy was playing with Gordon Stone and Justin was playing in Beggars Tomb. Wiegand didn't touch his guitar for two years. In the fall of 2003 Justin Harrison passed away in a car accident, the funeral would be the first time Squag would be together in three years. Dave got married, Squag played the next day in his parent's driveway, Jesse Howes played bass....this was to be a Renaissance....mmmm. 2005 Jim started the Guitar School of Vermont with Roger Lewis. Jim had his own school and was teaching, writing more songs and playing open mics. Langhoff would visit Jim in Vermont at the ranch, Jim would play Dave his new songs, eventually Wiegand would reunite Squagmyre (Wiegand, Langhoff, Howes) to record their fourth album, "it's all about you".  In 2006 Squagmyre started to gig, getting ready to lay tracks, practicing, fine tuning.  In 2007 Squag began recording with Roger Lewis at Question Mark Productions.  Tracks 1,3.6,and 9 were recorded and mixed by Roger in Colchester Vermont. All other tracks were recorded and by Doug Batchelder at the Den in N. Reading, Massachusetts.   Doug did the mastering on the project. Some of the project was video taped, this would add to the eighteen years of audio and video Wiegand had been organizing to make some videos for the band. Four videos would come from the studio sessions "it's all about you", those videos are going on a DVD "Squagmyre, all you can eat $11.99" (coming soon), they are also on Youtube. Wiegand also found the first album,"The Laundry Room Tapes" (coming soon), plus a live show made into a DVD and CD "Squagmyre @ Higher Ground in memory of Justin Harrison"(coming soon), and enough music for two live CD's "My 3 Favorite Things"...from 1989 to 2000....(coming soon). Wait, there still is plenty of old Squag left for another DVD and CD......lets see what happens. There is talk of another studio album, Wiegand has three songs ready with some on the burner...lets see what happens.....thanks for the support, we hope you enjoy the new album. "it's all about you" (released November 4th, 2008)
